ENERGY STAR Qualified Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs

Today's ENERGY STAR® qualified compact fluorescent lights (CFL) use three-fourths less energy, produce the same amount of light as incandescent light bulbs and will last up to 10 times longer. Given average usage, an energy efficient CFL bulb only has to be changed once every 5-7 years!

With new technology, ENERGY STAR qualified CFLs provide warm and inviting light without the flickering and humming of older fluorescent bulbs. An ENERGY STAR qualified CFL can replace regular bulbs in most lamps and are available in a variety of styles, shapes and sizes. Compact fluorescent lights can also be purchased in dimmable models and models compatible with motion sensors.

Save Money and Energy with Energy Efficient Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs

Switching to ENERGY STAR energy efficient CFLs can also save money on air conditioning. Up to 90 percent of the energy consumed by incandescent bulbs is directly released as heat rather than light. Energy efficient CFLs, on the other hand, produce less heat, which reduces cooling needs.

Choose today's ENERGY STAR qualified compact fluorescent light bulbs to save energy and spend less time changing your light bulbs. To learn how to choose which CFL types are most appropriate for certain fixtures in your home, click here.

CFLs contain a very small amount of mercury sealed within the glass tubing and need to be disposed of properly at the end of their life. Click for more information on proper disposal of CFLs. If you are a Massachusetts resident, please follow these guidelines provided by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection.

Recycling options in your community can vary by state. For more specific information for your area, please contact your individual utility or energy efficiency service sponsor.
